Stone sink care and maintenance guide

A stone sink is a durable, high-quality product, but regular maintenance with suitable cleaning products is essential to preserve its longevity and appearance.

A stone sink is a durable, high-quality solution designed to last for years. To maintain its longevity, good condition and attractive appearance, it is important to clean and care for the sink regularly using suitable products. Daily maintenance helps prevent the build-up of dirt, limescale and other residues, keeping the sink surface clean and well-maintained. Using the right cleaning products and methods helps preserve the properties of the stone surface and prevent damage.

Daily cleaning

Avoid harsh cleaning products

  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners, powerful limescale removers, oven or grill cleaners, strong alkaline products, solvents, paint removers, steel wool or abrasive cleaning powders to clean the stone sink.
  • Harsh chemicals may damage the stone surface, its finish or protective coating.
  • If the sink is made from natural stone, acidic substances must be strictly avoided, as they can react with the stone and alter its appearance.

Limescale removal

  • Dry the sink after each use to prevent limescale deposits.
  • If limescale has already formed, use only a cleaning product suitable for the specific stone material.
  • Do not use conventional strong bathroom limescale removers without first checking that they are safe for the stone material.
  • Before using a new cleaning product, we always recommend testing it on a small, inconspicuous area.

Stain removal

  • Remove coffee, tea, wine, oil, cosmetics and other coloured or greasy substances as quickly as possible.
  • First, clean the affected area with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaning product.
  • Do not leave strongly pigmented or greasy substances on the stone surface for extended periods.
  • Depending on the type of stone, natural stone may be more porous and absorb more liquids than engineered stone or ceramic.

Mould prevention

  • To prevent mould growth, keep the sink and surrounding areas as clean and dry as possible.
  • Pay particular attention to corners, joints, the area around the drain, silicone seals and places where water may accumulate for extended periods.
  • If mould develops, use a mould remover suitable for stone surfaces. Always check that the product is compatible with the specific stone material before use.
  • After removing the mould, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water and dry it.

Nano protection and impregnation

  • If the stone sink surface has been treated with a nano-protective coating or impregnating sealer, please note that the protective layer is not permanent.
  • Its effectiveness gradually decreases with use, cleaning and wear.
  • If necessary, the protective treatment should be reapplied periodically according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Nano protection or impregnation does not make the stone surface completely stain-resistant or eliminate the need for regular cleaning.

Hot objects

  • Do not place very hot pots, pans or other hot objects directly on the edge or surface of the stone sink.
  • Sudden temperature changes may cause thermal shock or damage the surface finish, depending on the material.

Mechanical damage

  • Although stone is a strong material, heavy impacts can damage the edges and corners of the sink.
  • Avoid dropping heavy metal objects or other heavy items into the sink.
  • The edges, corners and thinner sections of the stone are generally the most vulnerable to damage.

Important information

The specific care requirements for a stone sink depend on the material used. Natural stone, engineered quartz, ceramic and other stone materials may require different cleaning and maintenance products. If in doubt, contact the sink manufacturer before using any strong cleaning products or stain removers.

With proper and regular care, a stone sink will maintain its appearance and properties for many years.
