INSTALLATION OF STONE COUNTERTOPS

Installation and measurement

We offer some tips for carrying out installation work independently.

When measuring a countertop, it’s important to keep in mind that precision is essential and installation requires physical effort. Typically, kitchen countertops are made from material with a thickness of 30 mm and one square meter of such material weighs approximately 90 kilograms. If a thicker look is desired, it is more practical to glue the edges instead of using a thicker slab. The maximum length of slabs used is 3 meters—if a longer length is needed, a joint will be required. The countertop should be measured only after the cabinets have been fully installed. This ensures more accurate measurements and allows glued joints to be perfectly matched. When placing an order, it must be clear what type of sink and stove will be used in the countertop and whether the faucet hole will be in the countertop or integrated with the sink. It is also important to know whether the sink’s drain trap includes a stopper. Before placing the order, make sure the sink and stove are the correct dimensions.

Measuring

Tools required for measuring
  • Measuring tape
  • Cabinet drawings
  • Spirit level (minimum length 100 cm)
  • Pen and paper
  • Square ruler
Check that all cabinets have been installed.
Check whether all corners are right angles and measure any deviations.
Check that all cabinets are level.

Keep in mind that the minimum distance from the edge of the surface to the opening must be 50 mm.

It is not recommended to have two openings in one stone slab, as this increases the risk of the surface cracking. If possible, the surface should be continued from a suitable point. When starting measurements, always begin from an outer corner, measuring one surface at a time. Measure the lengths and depths of the surfaces and record them. Measuring the surface is a precise task. Please be aware that by performing the measurements yourself, you also take responsibility for the accuracy of the measurements provided to us.

Joint lines should be aligned so that the edges of the countertop match up with the cabinet walls. Mark the center of the stove and sink measured from the edge of the countertop, as well as the distance from the center to the edge. Also specify the diameter of any round sink. Check that the sink fits inside the cabinet. Always start measuring from the edge of the countertop. Specify the diameter of the faucet hole and any other possible openings in the countertop. A 3 mm installation tolerance must be taken into account during measurement. For corners or walls that are not straight, create a template from plywood or sturdy cardboard. Make sure the template stays firmly in place throughout the entire measurement process. Be aware that inaccuracies in measuring corners multiply significantly in the total length of the countertop.

When receiving the product, check that the packaging is not damaged. If the packaging is damaged, immediately make a note on the transport company's document that you receive the goods against. Ensure that the delivered countertops match the drawings. If you notice any differences from the original order or find that the product is damaged, contact the seller immediately. Do not start installing a damaged product, as installing a faulty countertop yourself will void your right to later claims!
